How does a hologram work?

In this blog, we delve deeper into the topic of how a hologram works and the various types of holograms.

Additionally, we'll take a look at the innovative holographic technologies currently being applied by us. But first, let's continue with the creation of a hologram. Despite the presence of holograms in popular films like Star Wars and Star Trek, the holograms depicted in these movies are not exactly the same as the holograms we encounter in everyday life. Nowadays, it's possible to create a hologram using various techniques. Below, we'll tell you more about that.

Different types of holograms

1. Led fan Hologram
The Led Fan Hologram consists of LED strips and a rapidly spinning fan, creating a breathtaking 3D effect. A mini-computer controls the LED lights at the right moment, making the movement imperceptible to the human eye. These Led Fan Holograms come in small and large sizes, ranging from 10 cm to as large as 300 cm. Additionally, these Led Fan Holograms can be linked together, creating a Holo Wall effect that you can scale up as much as you desire.

2. Pepper’s Ghost:
A Pepper's Ghost hologram utilizes a glass plate and a lamp. The trick is that the glass plate is positioned at a 45-degree angle.

Hidden from the audience's view, the person or object that will appear as a ghost is positioned at a hidden location. The person or object is illuminated by a lamp, and when the glass plate is correctly positioned, spectators can see the reflection of the person in the glass.

3. Pepperscrim Hologram: For Large-Scale Holographic Performances
The Pepperscrim hologram technique, known from performances by artists such as Eric Prydz, involves using a large thin mesh screen and a powerful projector. Eric Prydz has revitalized this technique by incorporating it into his shows, attracting many visitors specifically for this reason. By projecting a video onto the mesh screen and capturing the background light, a convincing optical illusion is created.

The future

While all current holograms are 2D optical illusions, recent research in Japan suggests that the future of holography may offer possibilities to visualize holograms in three dimensions by heating molecules. This is an exciting development that could push the boundaries of holographic technology further.
